The patented venting system allows for feeding with a Dr. Brown's bottle with or without the venting system. The bottles feature a new nipple shape that resembles a mother's breast. During feeding, we recommend using the Dr. Brown's venting system so that the baby experiences all the health benefits: the venting system prevents air bubbles from forming in the milk, which helps prevent colic, spitting up, and gas buildup; the patented venting system effectively reduces the oxidation of breast milk and formula, which helps preserve essential nutrients such as vitamins C, A, and E, as well as lipids (based on university research); the full venting system of the bottle allows for feeding without creating a vacuum, similar to breastfeeding; the bottles do not disrupt the sucking reflex. Some parents find that when the baby is older and more developed, removing the venting system provides an additional option for feeding with Dr. Brown's bottles: it allows for feeding similar to most bottles that have a venting system in the nipple; the venting system in the nipple creates the appropriate flow rate.
